Atty Bax
Naked not naked
Black and white, red and gold, shiny dust and glitter, can be found worldwide in folk art, in alchemy and in the work of Atty Bax. Preferences she acquired in her youth in Zeeland.
Back then, women still wore traditional costumes. Her father, a long-distance sailor, brought back exotic objects from his travels. Her mother and grandmother were fond of fine textiles and seductive jewelry. She learned to sew from them.
As a child, Bax always wanted to make something. When something was created under her hands, she was in her element, she was herself. And that is still the case.
She sees her art practice as a diary, in her work she makes herself known.
Atty Bax is an art advisor and artist.
While the first role requires rational reasoning and 100% transparency, in her art she can play and conceal and reveal to her heart's content.
She calls her work personal, but her themes are more than private.
She tackles love, eroticism, birth and death physically. The classic nude is not naked enough for her, with the genitals she depicts, Bax is much more explicit. Her work is physical to the point of uncanny. Sometimes she causes discomfort with her shamelessly intimate imagery. At the same time she seduces, entices you with decorations.
Velvety soft and cuddly, she wants to touch you.
