Evi van der Kant
Strange light
Clocks turned back, dark earlier and earlier, winter time.
Time for an artist who works with light.
Her work literally lit up at the exam exhibition in Den Bosch last year.
In the midst of pitch-black images, Ans Verdijk was distracted and seduced by something that radiant, and that is how she came on the trail of Evi van der Kant.
Now in the Museum of All Times.
Evi van der Kant has a preference for shadow, reflection and light. She likes to work with natural light, or create her own light source. She works with material that she finds on site, that she encounters in everyday life. And she directs our gaze to that. She guides with a gentle hand to cracks, cracks, openings. Show where light flows generously or where light peeps through somewhere. She surrounds those places with attention. By placing material precisely, she creates reflections and shadows. Modest and very present.
She emphatically focuses on these small moments, inviting us to stop where we normally rush past.
Come and have a look to see what Evi van der Kant sees.
Just stand still for a moment.
