Lisette van Zummeren
Landscape of the hidden pea
Duo exhibition with Ans Verdijk.
Lisette van Zummeren grew up close to nature, where she was inspired by fairy tales. Woodland creatures, witches and gnomes populate her work.
She has also been fascinated by houses since her childhood. She peeked in through windows and wandered around vacant buildings. For this duo exhibition with artist and curator Ans Verdijk she imagined new spaces and landscapes; “Piles of mattresses remind me of the fairy tale of the Princess and the Pea. Mattresses on the ground form a landscape, a bed for work. Inside becomes outside and outside becomes inside.”
The exhibition also refers to Mrs Holle, who urged a girl to shake the duvet so that it would snow on earth. Lisette's work, refined and diligent, is brought together with the work of Ans Verdijk, which is also detailed but sometimes shameless, wild and animalistic. Whether they will be showered with gold or pitch remains a mystery.
The duo exhibition can be viewed in the Museum of All Times and in ALARM, April 15 to June 3.
Lisette van Zummeren will be present on Sundays April 23, May 14, May 28 and Saturday June 3.
