Search for new visual language
By our reporter
Visual artist Mike Rekers has no complaints about interest in his work.' Since the Almeloer graduated last year from the sculpture department at the AKI, the academy for visual arts in Enschede, Rekers has already organized four exhibitions.
The exhibition in the artist initiative Alarm in Beugen is the fifth for the 29-year-old artist. The exhibition opens on Sunday, September 14 at 2:30 PM. Until September 28, Rekers' works can be viewed every Friday (from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.), Saturday and Sunday (always from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) in the space at Oeffeltseweg 21.
Rekers is interested in the expressive powers of certain materials and objects from his immediate environment. By using visual information he tries to create a world in which what is visible takes on a personal charge and meaning.
With this, the visual artist tries to develop a visual language that aims to create a new reality. The search for visual language in particular is a great source of inspiration for Rekers.
