Seet van Hout & Hieke Luik
We mirror
An interplay between Hieke Luik and Seet van Hout. They share a preference for growth and blossoming and decay, and for organic shapes too. They have a preference for art that takes root and grows. The material is allowed to form its own track. They sometimes drift along, sometimes hold back. They prefer to sit with their fingers in the paint, in the clay. Their hand is always recognizable in the work. By exploring and trying out they make unexpected discoveries. The work is the reflection of a continuous process.
The images of Liège are serene and concentrated, usually soft in tone. In Van Hout's paintings the lake proliferates; the colours, the shapes, the swirl.
They remain curious. Even though they both have a fine track record and their work is included in important collections. One has just come from Scheveningen, had an exhibition in Beelden aan Zee, the other had recently been shown work in Galerie Deschler in Berlin. Now they meet in North Brabant and have settled in Beugen.
With complete and partial works in their baggage, images that they want to work on again, possible new initiatives. This spring, Alarm with surroundings is the joint studio of Hieke Luik and Seet van Hout - workplace, experimental place, play area.
There is a notebook that went back and forth, full of ideas and reflections. There are possibilities and changes. There is no deadline, no clear plan. They are on a journey of discovery together and visitors are allowed to walk with them for a while.
Fixed only when it stops. At least in Beugen. Besides, you never know.
